David Parr House, Cambridge, autumn 2024: Words to Live By; Words to Live With
Words to Live By; Words to Live With was the second edition of House Guests, an innovative series that invites artists, designers, and makers to engage in dialogue with the extraordinary interiors and rich history of 186 Gwydir Street, Cambridge.
In collaboration with Rob Ryan we created a jug for the exhibition and a wall plate for the shop.
The Higgins, Bedford, February 2024 – January 2025: Edward Bawden & Me
The Higgins Bedford is the civic gallery and museum of Bedford Borough Council, and home to the archive of printmaker, illustrator, watercolourist and designer Edward Bawden (1903-1989).
Edward Bawden & Me is a celebration of and response to Bawden’s work, with new art by contemporary artists including Jonny Hannah, Vicky Lindo, Mark Hearld and Angie Lewin, inspired by pieces in the archive. Curated by Bawden’s student and friend, Christopher Brown, with the Higgins’ Victoria Partridge, it has been one of the gallery’s most popular exhibitions.
Responding to Bawden’s experience of being part of an artistic community in the Essex village of Great Bardfield, our jug features his drawing of corn dollies made by local craftsman Fred Mizen, while echoing the work of his friends and fellow residents, Eric Ravilious and Tirzah Garfield.
Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village, Compton, Surrey, spring 2023 – Watts Ceramics: Living Traditions
This exhibition explored how the pottery techniques and styles of previous generations and different cultures are being reinvented by artists today. From Staffordshire figures to Sunderland lustre ware, from Sri Lanka to Scandinavia, ceramics traditions continue to inspire.
Curated by Gwen Hughes at Watts Contemporary Gallery and featuring the work of Katrin Moye, Hannah McAndrew and Unity Coombes amongst others. At the curator’s request we offered pieces inspired by the gallery’s location.
Artwave Festival, Sussex, annually in September
Artwave is an inclusive, un-curated festival which has been encouraging artists and makers of all ages and disciplines in the Lewes district of Sussex to show their work since 1993.
While many exhibitors open their homes and studios for the event, we have had the good fortune to be on display at the venue of our local stockist, Peter Chasseaud, at his shop, the Tom Paine Press and Gallery, at 151 High Street, Lewes.
In 2024 we had the honour of featuring on the cover of Artwave’s brochure and posters.
